Mona Lisa

The four-arched bridge above her right shoulder is the Ponte Buriano on the Arno river in eastern Tuscany. It was built in 1277, was a working road bridge in Leonardo's time, and is still standing. Leonardo lived and worked near it; he sketched the surrounding valley repeatedly. The landscape behind the Mona Lisa is otherwise composite and unreal, but the bridge is a precise local thing he had walked across. Now at Musée du Louvre, Paris @museelouvre
